7 Costly Mistakes Of Online Business, And Network Marketers

Becoming self-employed can be liberating, exhilarating, frustrating and terrifying. Often all at the same time. Most entrepreneurs I meet know they need to be doing marketing. They just often lack a clear sense of what marketing is, or they have no idea where to start. Here are the seven most common mistakes I see new business owners making with their marketing (and how to fix them):

1. They dont do any New consultants tend to focus their attention on the skill they offer their clients. Usually they are very talented at that skill, theyre just not talented at talking people about it, or explaining how it will help others. If you arent doing any marketing dont be surprised if the world does not beat a path to your door. People wont know youre out there if they never hear about you. 2. They market inconsistently Although its better than not doing any, marketing in a hit-or-miss manner is not a recipe for success. Massive brands like Coke and McDonalds didnt get that way by approaching their marketing as an afterthought. Without consistent effort it is difficult to stay top-of-mind. 3. They have no plan It takes a plan to identify the best opportunities and timing to reach your ideal customer. Drafting an annual marketing plan forces you to identify your goals, target audience, geographic market, key messages and the tactics you will use to spread the word. Dont skip this step. 4. They fail to delegate it As a business owner you wear many hats but it doesnt mean you have to do it all yourself. There are lots of administrative assistants, virtual assistants and interns who can take many of the basic tasks of marketing off your plate, freeing you to focus on serving customers and selling. Though I prefer to do things myself… Outsourcing work is always an option! 5. They fail to fund it While some tactics like social media require only time and no money, other marketing initiatives do require funds. Take a look at your expected revenues and determine an appropriate amount to invest. By seeing your budget as a whole you can better invest those dollars wisely. You must first learn to always invest in yourself. 6. They see it as an expense and not an investment When done correctly, marketing is an investment, not an expense. Its not like your rent which flows out every month never to be seen again. The dollars you spend finding the right people and letting them know about you should flow back to you in the form of new business. Poor people Entertain themselves, while Rich people Educate themselves.. Your first investment is Self! 7. They expect immediate results Marketing is both an art and a science. There is no one silver bullet that will completely provide you with all the business you could ever want. It takes time for your target customer to feel ready to buy, so commit to a long-term view to get the best results in marketing your consulting business.

Most people do not realize that it is easy to generate leads for most mlm businesses. In fact, I often hear people in mlm ask where to buy leads and I answer: “Why Buy MLM Leads When You Can Get Them For Free?”

One of the easiest ways to get leads is the Internet. People are buzzing all over the Internet and all you have to do is put your information out there, and in enough places and the leads will pour in. One of the best places online to get leads is through social networking.

Social networking is done on sites like Facebook, Myspace, Ning, Twitter, and forums. Wherever there is a community of people on the Internet, there is a social network that you can tap into.

On Facebook and Myspace you can make accounts just for your mlm business, or you can place links to your mlm business site from you account. Even better, you can put a little information about what you do, on your profile page, and join groups of people that would be interested in mlm, these would be people who can turn into leads. The more groups you join and the more active you are, the more people will see your link.

Ning is a site packed full of mini Myspace groups. There are groups on there of moms, dads, and every other niche of people you can imagine. By joining the groups of people that are demographically proven to be decent niches and sharing your experience with your mlm business you can generate leads. Of course you should also be participating in the actual social network you join, because if you are there to spam, you will quickly be banned.

Twitter is another place to find leads. Find others who you want to follow and post great information about your mlm business and the products you have, and people will start following you soon. As time goes on, keep giving informative information out and people will be checking out your links. The better the information you give, the more people that will become leads.

Forums and even Craigslist are good places to post as well. On forums you get signatures that go under your name. You can put a link to your business there, and post on forums that pertain to your leads. Again, the more you interact with people and the better the information you share, the more you will receive in terms of leads.

On Craigslist you can post your ads for different products, free products, free information and even get more leads, just by being active locally. People love interaction and personalization, if you can find a way to respond to each person and reach out to several niches you should be able to get more leads.

MLM is a lot easier than people think and requires you to share yourself more than just your business. It is easy to generate leads if you put yourself out there and find others who can use your product and business model to improve their lives. There is no reason to buy mlm leads when you can generate them more efficiently yourself. Give it a try.
